ISSUES

Affordable Housing

It’s getting harder and harder for working New Yorkers to live in our city. Rents are skyrocketing and people are being pushed out by landlords looking to make a quick buck. We’ve passed the strongest rent laws in state history but there’s still more to do.

I'M COMMITTED TO:

  • Passing the Small Homes Anti-Speculation Act that I sponsor to put an end to unscrupulous investors who come in to our communities and put people out of their homes.

  • Ensuring that our homeless have safe shelters and a pathway towards getting on the right track back to stable housing.

  • Providing increased funding for NYCHA so that tenants have a safe and comfortable place to live without having to worry about heat and hot water outages.

Criminal Justice Reform

For far too long our criminal justice system has unfairly targeted people of color. It’s time to put a stop to the racially unjust processes that exist today.

I'M COMMITTED TO:

  • Ending cash bail so that those without the means to pay aren’t forced to spend months
or years in a cell before trial for low level offenses.

  • Reforming the parole process so that those who commit technical violations are not thrown
    back into prison for them.

Environment

We all saw how devastated Brooklyn was by Hurricane Sandy, we need to fight climate change and make sure we’re prepared for the future.

I'M COMMITTED TO:

  • Fighting to create more green infrastructure to reduce our dependence on fossil fuel.

  • Ensuring that the MTA is prepared for future storms with the proper funding to install flood mitigation systems and contingency plans.

  • Creating a pathway for environmental conservation funding into New York City parks and wetlands.

Transportation

New Yorkers who rely on our subway and bus system know the constant state of disrepair that it is in. That’s why I helped extend the millionaires tax to raise crucial funds and direct internet sales tax revenue for subway repairs. This will result in hundreds of millions of dollars that will go directly to ensuring that trains run on time and New Yorkers can get to where they’re going without endless delays.

I'M COMMITTED TO:

  • Ensuring that fare raises are limited, because hardworking New Yorkers already pay too
much for a system in disrepair.

  • Working to protect our subway system from storm surge and other flooding we’ve seen
as a result of climate change.

  • Putting an end to transportation deserts with better bus service and safer roadways for
    bicyclists.
